Davyhulme Park emerged as the victors at a rain soaked Dukinfield Golf Club in the final of the MDGA Foursomes Trophy – beating Didsbury 5 – 2 !
The final was a tense affair with matches ebbing and flowing all morning. After being 3 down with only 6 holes to play, victory on the 19th by Mike Wallwork and Geoff Lever got Davyhulme off to the perfect start but this early lead was quickly cancelled out by a narrow defeats for Paul Barton and Howard Jones and Steve Chamberlain and Dave Wood. However, Davyhulme had the perfect answer with further victories from David’s Lowe and Smith, Alan Vaughan and Martin Ross, Bernard Garrity and Steve Howells before Derek Page and Paul Greenhalgh wrapped up a convincing 5 – 2 winning margin with another late victory on 19th in the pouring rain!
Commenting Steve Chamberlain; the DPGC Team Captain said; “We have had an unbelievable run this year with lots of closely fought matches over 6 different rounds. The team never gave up with “come-back” stories too numerous to mention ! To win such a prestigious inter-club trophy in our Centenary year caps a brilliant year off for the club. I am proud to have led the team this year and we hope to retain our trophy with us as hosts for the final, next year.
