DPGC Junior Section 2016–17 Report

I would like to say a big thank you to all our members and Fiona for their support shown to the junior section for the year 2016-17, you will have seen many of them grow and become part of the golf club family.
Our plans to improve junior golf facilities this coming year are to continue encouraging more young people to take up the game of golf, providing subsidised and free lessons. This has been achieved this past year by very generous donations from Mr Joe Obasuke, Tom and Shirley Sharp, Richard Edmondson, Bernard Reynolds, Stuart Smith, and Bob Channings.

I must thank our professional Martin Hamer in giving up his time to teach and encourage our juniors this past year.
Due to the limited amount of sponsorship raised last year we could not take on board all those that applied. However, with the help of our General Manager Keith Melia we are in the process of writing to various associations i.e. Sport England, Lottery, PGA,UK Sport, local businesses, plus small donations to help us fund the 2016-17 intake and the next generation of Davyhulme members.

If there are any members of the club who would be interested in contributing any sponsorship monies to the ongoing development for the new juniors, then that support would be very welcome indeed.

The juniors would also like me to say a special “thank you” to Warren and his great staff for looking after them and feeding them well throughout the season.

Many thanks to 2016-17 junior Captain Alex Barwell for carrying out his duties with confidence and politeness befitting a Davyhulme Captain.

Our junior Captain for 2017-18 is Matt Gallagher a very good golfer and a nice young man, best of luck for the upcoming season Matt.

On a personal note as junior organizer, my hope is to build a junior committee from the Ladies, Gents and social membership to carry on the development of junior golf. Do not hesitate to contact me if you would like to get involved.

Norman Dunn,
Junior Organizer
