Welcome to the new snooker league season 2016/17!
Thank you for supporting the league - the snooker committee has made the draw and so please find attached details of this years teams and fixture dates for your diary.
This years captains are as follows:
- Team A - Dave Shepherd
- Team B - Bernard Garrity
- Team C - (defending champion) Gary Brooks
- Team D - Keith Madden
- Team E - Neil Bradburn
- Team F - Dominic Connor
The committee reviewed last seasons experiment of playing some matches on a Wednesday in an effort to keep the league duration to 6 months, finish before the clocks go forward and golf in the evenings becomes a possibility again. On balance we decided the pros outweigh the cons and have scheduled four matches (one less than last season) in January/February on a Wednesday. We have ensured no team has more than two Wednesday night matches nor plays on two consecutive nights in the same week. We recognise Wednesdays do not work for everyone but felt this was the best option so we can conclude the season by mid March.
As usual each match will start at 7:30pm prompt and we are keen to ensure that the first two matches each night are able to start at this time. As this was not always the case last season can we please ask for everyones support in doing their upmost to arrive on time so we can get the matches started. Where this is not possible can you please alert your captain in advance and we will do what we can to accommodate.
That's the housekeeping over with and so onto..........
As at the end of every season the committee have met and reviewed each players handicap; closely scrutinising last years performances, results and vital statistics. Your new handicap can be found on the attached and we feel confident our tweaks can only raise the prospect of even more tension filled black ball games! This year we are delighted to welcome a number of new players: David Marsden on Team D and Reserves in the form of Harry Sharkey, Mike Shelley (hopefully Harry has had a word, Mike!) and our GM Keith Melia. In respect of this fresh new talent, each will start with a handicap of scratch and the committee will reserve the right to amend handicaps based on early season performances. Welcome to you all and we hope you enjoy the league!
Good luck to all the teams on what will no doubt be another highly competitive season. As per last year we will endeavour to post the latest results, league tables and individual stats on the website and snooker notice board, as soon as possible after each match and look forward to seeing you all over the coming weeks and months!
on behalf of the Snooker Committee.....Dave Shepherd, Gary Brooks, Bernard Garrity
