What a fantastic start to Captain’s Weekend 2025! On Saturday 21st June, the members of Davyhulme Park Golf Club gathered to celebrate Day 1 of this year’s Captain’s Weekend, hosted by our esteemed Captain, Pete Gaffney.
The day began in great spirits with a hearty breakfast in the clubhouse, where members mingled and soaked up the buzz of the weekend ahead. This was followed by a warm welcome and opening speeches, setting the tone for what would be a memorable day of golf and camaraderie.
Captain Gaffney was joined by his close friends and loving family, making the occasion even more special. With his grandchildren adding an extra layer of joy and energy, the day held a family feel that everyone appreciated.
The weather was mostly kind, though an occasional shower did make an appearance during play. Fortunately, the brief bit of rain didn’t put too many off their game – if anything, it added to the day’s charm and challenge.
The golf competition itself saw some excellent performances and plenty of friendly rivalry out on the course. From steady swings to daring putts, the spirit of the club shone through in every group.
As the sun began to set, the clubhouse came alive once again for the evening meal and entertainment. A delicious dinner was served, followed by a lively performance by the always-popular Vinny Mack. The night’s soundtrack was joyfully hijacked (and improved!) by Pete’s grandchildren, who confidently took charge of the playlist, much to everyone’s amusement.
The day was beautifully captured in a series of photos, highlighting the formal parts of the day, some wonderful golf action, and the joy of the evening celebrations.
It was a day filled with laughter, warmth, and pride – a fitting celebration for a Captain who brings so much heart to our club. We can’t wait to see what Day 2 brings!
